Not by Chance — Shielded by the Most High

“A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.”
Psalm 91:7 (ESV)

We had some high winds here, and a tree fell. But God had His plans…

The storm came in the night — loud, wild, and unpredictable. When the sun rose, we saw the evidence: a massive tree, toppled and stretched across the yard. It had crushed garden plants and bushes. But somehow, impossibly, it missed everything else. The tree fell perfectly between the fence and the pool. No damage to the house or any structure. No injuries. It should have been worse.

And yet… it wasn’t.

Moments like that remind us of Psalm 91:7 — of God’s ability to shield us when everything around us is falling. Not because we’re lucky. Not because we’re invincible. But because we rest in the shelter of the Most High (Psalm 91:1). He is not absent in the chaos — He is commanding it.

Protection in the Bible doesn’t always mean storms are avoided. Sometimes it means they’re redirected. Or they hit — but don’t destroy. Or they break things — but not you.

If you’ve felt like destruction has been circling your life lately, don’t miss this: the hand of God may be moving more than you realize. You are still here. Still standing. Still covered by mercy.

Not by chance.
By design.
By Him.

Closing Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the things that never even touched me — the heartbreaks I didn’t see, the harm You blocked, the grace You wrapped around my home and heart. Help me to remember that when others fall, You are still holding me. Not because I’m better, but because You are faithful. Help me walk in gratitude, not fear. In Jesus’ name, amen.
